Make sure where the 5/16” spear shaft attaches to the spear that it gets a light coat of anti-seize grease. This will prevent the salt from building up between the shaft and the pole and make removal very easy.
If for some reason the shaft is hard to remove take the set screws out and use a penetrating fluid in the holes and where the shaft slides into the pole. Let this sit for a half an hour then twist the shaft with some pliers and this should remove it.
The two set (grub) screws are ¼-28x1/4“ and take an 1/8” hex (Allen) wrench to tighten and remove. (Wrench and 2 extra set screws were included with your spear)
The set screws when screwed in or out will have resistance THIS IS NORMAL. By using a locking Heli-coil there is no need for a thread locker to be used to hold them in place. Anti seize grease should be used here as well to make them easier to place and remove.
If you have a two or three-piece spear you may need to use Teflon tape on the threads. This will help keep the spear together. A couple wraps should do it.
When you’re finished diving/hunting, rinse the spear with fresh water and let it dry before putting it away. If you have a two or three-piece spear disassemble the spear and spray off the ends as well.
With a little care your spear should last a lifetime. Enjoy it and shoot us a picture every now and then.
